I Don't Want A Harsh Face!

she looks like this but...

probably looked like this as a baby. What happened?

This post was prompted by Reggie. over at Reggie's Rantings.  He tends to do posts that speak the truth, say things many people are afraid to say and he always has hilarious pictures to emphasize his point. This is for you Reggie! LOL!

I don’t want a harsh face.

For awhile now I've really been looking at people and their faces.  You know how it is when you run into an old friend you haven't seen in awhile. That encounter can go either way. You can be pleasantly surprised that they look good and are aging well OR you can be shocked and wonder what the heck happened to them. There are a lot of harsh faces out there.

I don’t want a harsh face.

I do a lot of things to keep my face smooth and pretty.  Most of it is good genes (my mother has gorgeous skin) and the rest is healthy practices like lots of sleep, eating clean, and of course water. I don’t smoke and for the most part I don’t drink often except socially. Those practices can be aging.  Especially smoking. I’ve seen many people in my age group or younger and you can tell who lives a harder life or what their lifestyle choices are based on their skin...

Texture: Premature lines and wrinkles

Shade: Gray cast or burnt lips

Tone: Sagging skin

My cousin is a couple of years and a few months younger than I am but she looks many years older because she is a heavy smoker and has been since her teens.

I don’t want a harsh face.

Every time I see someone with a harsh face I react like its me. I don't want whatever happened to them to happen to me so I drink more water, use more products especially moisturizer and hope for the best because...

 I don't want a harsh face.

Kelly Rowland no makeup.

Continuing to look great with no makeup is a real goal in these streets! LOL!

What are you doing to prevent a harsh face?

Success on a Saturday

I found this list in Pinterest and seems like its been around for awhile. Reading the first suggestion struck me. I live around and see so many unhappy people who are miserable because of who they married. Who knew choosing a mate is really one of the most important decisions?

A pastor once said people marry people for the wrong reasons everyday. Men marry their baby mama and become an instant family, but they never should have had a baby together. People marry their one night stand, but they never should have had sex. People marry folks who they don't even know and are surprised when it doesn't work out.  No offense to anyone if this is your story just my opinion : )

He said wait for your wife/husband and marry them, not just some random person you fall in like with.

The more I look around I realize making a superficial decision would be the biggest mistake of my life. I'm waiting for the man that LOVES ME and I love back!  I want to feel it and KNOW it in my spirit. The waiting is hard, but now that I see the repercussions. I'll wait.

This a great list! I think if we strive to follow the things listed all of our lives really will improve. How many of the listed do you know you already follow?

P.S. I don't know what these last two posts are about. I guess I'm in an enlightened, reflective place.

Why dey do dat...... To Me??????

I'm out shopping for my Thanksgiving dinner. I'm at the store in the hood cause they got IT! I'm buying condensed milk, cranberry sauce, evaporated milk, pineapples all name brand for 88 cent! Yep! Yep!

I hate the crowded parking lots, but I had no choice but to park hella far away from the entrance. Again, I'm holiday shopping so I'm in the store about 1.5 hours.

TELL ME WHY?????????????????????

I come out of the store and some trifling ASS(Oh I want to say some stuff here) has STOLEN my license plates off of my car!!!

I'M SO MAD!

Not just the registration tag like they normally do out here! The whole dang plate front and back.and my plate holders.

I have to replace both plates and my registration. O_O

P.S. The police were to busy to come! I had to go to them to file my police report!

My mother said, "Be thankful they didn't break in your car!" Okay THANKS!

Movies from the 70's What were they thinking??? Claudine: the commentary

At the suggestion of P.S.I Love This I watched Claudine (1974) with Diane Carol and James Earl Jones.
I had heard from my aunt’s and others about this movie being so good. BLANK STARE O_O at all of them!

Plot: The film tells the story of Claudine Price, a single mother, living on welfare with six children, who finds love with a garbage collector, Rupert Marshall, who she calls "Roop". The pair's relationship becomes complicated because of a number of factors. Among these are that the couple do not want to marry because they would not be able to support the children without welfare, and that the kids themselves, particularly eldest son Charles, are apprehensive of Rupert, and believe that he will leave their mother just like her previous husbands and boyfriends. Wiki

Here is the commentary between P.S. and I. about this movie. Hilarious!

Me: I finally watched Claudine. Before I comment about it I want to know why you wanted me to see it.

Her: Oh you finally saw that movie!! Well, when I had suggested it, I had just watched it again with my sister and the whole time, I was mad at Claudine for all her stupid ass decisions and dealing with a man that wanted to shirk his responsibilities to his own children. There's so many things I HATED about that movie, it's just an eye rolling session the whole time I watched it. My sister is always like, "would you shut up!" hahahahaha. So, I just thought it would be cool to get your perspective, because at the time, you would slip in random thoughts about women, well particularly, Tara from True Blood and how she's portrayed. I KNOW you have a mouthful about Claudine. Teehheeee

Me: Okay yes Claudine made me sit up and yell at the screen! LOL! Are you serious??? I was overwhelmed by the stereotypes and the portrayal of African Americans in general. Who wrote this mess?

Her: I'm dying laughin' because I knew you would be having a fit at the movie. LOL Wish I was a fly on the wall. Girl, did you die when Rupert ran Claudine a bath and put some Joy dish detergent in the water for the bubbles??!?!? I die every time.. I know her skin was dry as hell. And he was all trying to touch her ill na-na.. I was like EXCUSE YOU!! Lolol

Me: Okay the Joy had me dying. I said dish washing liquid O_O! I was trying to give the scene the benefit of the doubt that they knew each other from before, but come on????? he all in the water??? You (meaning he) don't KNOW me(meaning her) like that!!! All those kids with no father's??? Oooo she got on my nerves! and welfare REALLY!!!! You all up in mine like that???? That system totally contributed to the demise of the black family. Instead of encouraging relationships you gotta hide your man and the gifts??? Oh it was just TOO much! LOL! I like to had a fit!!!!!!!!! I was like what in the SAM Hill am I watching?? LOL!

Her: I can't stop laughing.. you're so funny. The welfare was a mess.. seems like the system was a$$ backward back then.. still is but I digress. You had to hide the iron?? LAWD! Will you watch it again? *dies laughin* I'm gonna watch it right now.. The parts that make me laugh genuinely is when the daughter comes home drunk.. talking about learning how to hold her liquor.. and when they were having the father's day party (WHY??) and that lady was dancing with the little son.. I was like why is she popping her monkey all in his face??? I mean, I know he is short and that was the dance back then but still. Lol

Me: NO I shan't be watching that mess again!!!!!! I agree the daughter being drunk and the grown woman dancing with little dude was too much! Why did they give Rupert a Father's day party???????? That was so dumb. Claudine knew the man already had kidaphobia so what the heck was that about?? I could see if it was a birthday party...

In case ya'll didn't KNOW....

BLACK GIRLS ROCK!

Many people don't support BET because of their programming or lack thereof. BET programming can be degrading to women, ignorant and downright buffoonish and coonish ! Yeah I said coon! Anyway Sunday night BET took a leap (in my opinion) toward the positive by broadcasting the first annual Black Girls Rock awards show that was held October 16, 2010. The foundation Black Girls Rock is a positive organization that supports inner city girls and encourages them through music to love themselves, have higher self esteem and just recognize that no matter where they come from THEY ROCK!!!

The event was missed by many because they don't watch BET. I tuned in because I support the organization, and was siked that the awards were being aired. BET was just the vessel being used to air something positive. I wish ABC, CBS, or NBC or even MTV would have chosen to broadcast the show but they didn't BET did!

I like all things positive for black girls! Raven Simone and Ke Ke Palmer among many others were honored at the award show for their image of positivity for young black girls! They don't mind being role models which I love! I considered them OUR more positive and less sexualized Hanna Montana's.

A highlight of the evening  for me was a performance of Nina Simone's Four Women by Marsha Ambrosius,  Ledesi, Kelly Price and Jill Scott. It was AMAZING!!! Check that out Here the original version Here

The commercial for the show showed Nia Long, who was the host for the evening rockin a Black Girls Rock t-shirt. It's a must have for me. Why??? because I Rock! LOL! Now if I could just figure out where to get one...

More about the organization here and about the award show here. This post was inspired by Confessions of a City Girl.

Did anyone else watch?

UPDATE: Rebroadcast tonight 8:00 pm PST

So what was it about July 31, 2010?????? There were three "celebrity" weddings on that date.
7/31/10 doesn't seem that special a date to me. I remember when a ton of people were gettin hitched on 07/07/07, and 08/08/08 etc. Even 12/31/00. So what was the big deal about last Saturday?

Does anybody know?

Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky. Chelsea Clinton wore Vera Wang

Alicia Keys and Swiss Beats. Alicia Keys wore Vera Wang

TI and Tiny
Is it just me???? How did TI and Tiny manage to make a Valentino original and a custom-made Prada tuxedo look cheap and dare I say ghetto???

Congrats to all the happy couples! Ain't love great?

GP the early years

When I was in  the seventh grade, we were studying the Roman Empire in history and were assigned a diorama project. For my project I decided I would sculpt from clay a replica of the coliseum. I had never sculpted before a day in my life.

My mother and I went to the crafts store and she purchased me a large block of clay.

In my lofty imagination I truly believed I would be able to sculpt a masterpiece. On Thursday night the project was due that Friday I set out on my task of molding the clay into the shape of the coliseum.

So I’m kneading and rolling this clay in my hands trying to make it soft. My hands were so tired!

I had no idea what I was doing. I really should have started this process earlier and maybe I would have made more progress. On Friday morning I took my project into history class with no shame.

I had previously copied a picture from the encyclopedia of what my project should look like and attached it to the front of my board. As I looked around I saw that there were all types of really good projects from kids who did weeks of preparation. Then I looked at mine. Can you see this with a picture of a coliseum in front of it???

This is what it could have looked like.

Clearly I needed more people. where were these guys when I was sculpting???? Oh yeah sperm. All I can say is my very, very, very generous teacher gave me a C- for effort because nobody else did a coliseum neither did I or used clay Whew!

IT'S SOOOOO HOT TODAY!

We finally are getting some nice weather in the Bay Area. Today it hit 80 degrees in my town! Felt like 90.
That's hot for the Bay Area especially near the bay. Much hotter inland really in the 90's.

Me personally I do not like to be hot at all. I love the idea of nice weather. But actually being outside when it's hot No thank you!

I would like to be here in a cool controlled environment.  I don't now where this beautiful place is but its fab.

I have to do a summer essentials post. Coming Soon

THURSDAY's THOUGHTS...#1 shout out to Jameil

One of my favorite bloggers Jameil has a spot on her blog called Monday Mindspacing every Monday she says some stuff that keeps me laughing. It's just her random thoughts about stuff and we comment. I need a space to express random thoughts so I’m introducing Thursday's Thoughts…. The title maybe corny, but oh well

1. I watch the Housewives series I like some more than others. I can NOT wait until Atlanta starts again. Have you seen Ne Ne’s new nose? What she do dat for? I’m so mad at her.

2. PG&E installed new smart meters to everyone’s house to monitor usage. Why are bills higher since the new meters were installed FAIL!

3. Maxwell and Jill Scott are coming tomorrow.  I saw Jill a few years back. Her show is great. I heard Maxwell's show is great too.WHY DIDN’T I GET TICKETS?

4. I walked Bay to Breakers May 16, 2010 It was about 8.5 miles including the walk from the BART to the start line and from the finish line to the bus. I had not worked out since, until today. I do need new walking shoes because my feet felt like they died after the marathon.

5. I actually had a blog beef a few weeks back. Dude went as far as to do a WHOLE post about me. I’m famous ya’ll

6. Why is the oil spill still spilling? Can’t they fix that already? Everybody was on Obama about his stance against offshore drilling. I bet he has no problem passing the bill now.

7. I found my sister’s blog by accident. I feel weird. I was the one that told her to start blogging because she kept putting CRAZY ish on Facebook for all to see. I have to admit I was embarrassed. I read her blog and my heart is so full of sadness for her. She is very sad. The question is should I tell her or just not read again?

8. Me and theCaptain had a cool weekend together. No fighting. I hope this keeps up.

9. I was so hyped to go see Sex and the City 2. I had invited my mom to go with me. Ain’t it a trip how mother's can change your plans. I’m FINALLY going to see it tomorrow a whole week after it started. Hmph! My mother made me PROMISE not to go without her. I’m so mad! But I kept my word.

10. I’m bored

True Lies...

Back in 1994 a movie came out called True Lies. It starred Ja.mie Le.e Cu.rtis and Arn.old Sch.warzene.gger as husband and wife. I used to like this movie. I liked JLC as an actress. In light of recent events, I canNOT watch this movie or any other flick starring A.S. I immediately turn the channel.

Currently California is suffering from the worst fiscal crisis in recent history. A few years ago someone had the bright idea that the governor at that time Gr.ay Da.vis was not doing his job. I disagree So he was impeached and The Terminator ran for the position. His platform was that he was going to terminate California's debt, and create a better budget. WRONG!!!!

In my opinion he terminated our state. Right now with budget cuts to health care, schools, a high unempolyment  rate of 12.9%, rampant crime, and mentally ill people walking the streets due to program cuts this state is in worse shape than before his term. We need a DO OVER! I bet if the people that voted for the Terminator twice had any idea this would happen maybe they would have chose differently. But then again maybe not. They had to be a bunch of complete idiots to vote him in in the first place.

He was recently on Jay Leno. Jay asked if he could run for president would he? He said of course! But the constitution forbids foreign born citizens from  running. THANK GOD!  for now. I hope he never gets the chance to terminate our country. President REALLY????? Obama says it best!

Talking to some people...Questions?

On Rashan's Blog he had a post talking to ten people who didn't know he was talking to them.

I only have something to say to three.

1. To the man in the PG&E office while I was paying my  electric bill. Is that YOU smelling like that? EWWWWWWW Wash your azz! Or as Jameil said on 5. I should say wash your ASS! Why do I smell you as I walk by you. WHY! Again EWWWWWW. He did not look homeless and he was paying his bill too!

2.  To the man on the bike riding by the Taco Bell drive thru. Okay I'm in a car at the drive thru and you are on a bike. Not a new bike or a good bike. It's looks like it's pieced together from stolen parts. Why? I ask you why would I want to talk to you?
A. I would have to drive.
B. Are you picking me up on your bike????? Sorry to be so judgemental but Get The F outta here!

3. To the manager at the register at Popeyes. What do you mean this store does not honor the TV special.
I want the 9 piece chicken strips for & 7.99 Not 5 for 5.99 or 10 for 10.99 the ad said 9 for 7.99. I hate ya'll! You price gouger! And guess what I'm telling Mr. Popeye on you as soon as I get home.

theCaptain

I was thinking about theCaptain today... and I had some  random thoughts about him that I want to clarify.

I have checked out out quite a few blogs and the women all have made up names for their signif others. I have read about Mr. 1969, Mr. Wonderful, Mr. Incredible, Mr Darling, The Count, The Boy, Vh1. just  to name a few.

I thought about why I named theCaptain theCaptain. I was thinking my blog fam and lurkers might think it was from E-40's Captain Save A Hoe. **Absolutely NOT!!! in Frankie voice**

To me theCaptain is soooo old school, He is the first beats of Al Greens Love an Happiness **shout out to Don**, an old OJays song and I named him based on this old skool song by Lakeside called Fantastic Voyage. Thanks mom for introducing me to good soul music.

And the beat is so Funky ass Funky *shout out to slaus at OHN*

The lyrics to the song are I'm theCaptain of this vessel, we wanna take you on a cruise...
Were the directors of this cruiseship and you are under our command...

and this is what I hear **I'm theCaptain of this vessel and you are under my command** I know I know crazy

I feel like this ALL THE DAMN TIME just out of control and under his command. But when it is GOOD. Damn it is a fuggin Fantastic Voyage.  I  know this post is totally out of left field but I mentioned theCaptain to my friend and she immediately went to save-a-hoe. *side eye* on that ish. Is you trying to call Moi a hoe on the sly.  Yes, my educated azz said is you LOL!

A Freakin Hairtastrophe!!

Okay so in the summer I decided I wanted to go natural. Clearly someone with too much free time
I had a relaxer and my hair was pretty long. But the upkeep was expensive. I used to go to the salon every week. Got bored with that too needed a break.

Since I've been in the blog world I've found a lot of sites where people have gone natural so I thought I would give it a try.

Long story short... I had not had a relaxer since June. I had a lot of new growth and I wore braids as I transitioned? So theCaptain thought my braids were cute **swoon** but he could not grasp the whole going natural thing. Once I explained it he was like oh hell naw!!! Then there is the BIG CHOP!! You have to CUT the relaxer off.WTF??!!! So I guess I missed the memo on that part. My relaxed hair was to the middle of my back.  I did not cut the relaxer. I don't know. I just couldn't.  I figured I could trim as I go once my natural hair grew out. But my hair disagreed. My new growth and relaxed hair tangled. Aaaaahhh nightmare!!

Long long story short. I went to the salon today and got a relaxer couldn't take the natural any longer and guess what?????? my stylist gave me the BIG CHOP anyway. Cause my hair broke off She was so disappointed. She was like what were you thinking? If you wanted to go natural I could have pressed out your new growth until it grew. So now I have a shorter style it's not at my neck but right before my shoulders. TheCaptain has not seen it yet. Oh Gawd! but he told me I would be cute with short hair too. so we'll see.
