Movie Club Meetup: THE HELP

 Hey Movie Clubbers,

We kicked off movie club 2012 (original post here )with a homage to the Academy Awards. It's time to review The Help. Okay let's get to it.

I enjoyed The Help, sort of.  I could totally identify with Minnie Jackson and her sassy-ness. I enjoyed her so much and totally believe Octavia Spencer deserved her Academy Award for her acting in this role. All that maid hoopla is just… blah blah blah. She WON!! Yay!

Hilly Holbrook was an evil witch. I hollered when she ate the now infamous sh*t pie. That was super ballsy of Minnie to do, but I feared for her life throughout the remainder of the film. I just knew Hilly would tell and Minnie would be beaten or hung for her actions. I was sad when Minnie’s daughter had to quit school and start being a maid. The stereotypical abusive black man *eye roll*

The way they treated Celia was just so mean! I hate when cliquey people single out a person and mistreats them. She seemed so sweet and she tried so hard to fit in. Oh but that Hilly Holbrooke jealous self just had to make Celia's life and everyone else's life a living hell! I hated Bryce Dallas Howard in this role! She played her part! lol

Let's not forget Skeeter being name Skeeter! Hahahahahaha!

The Help was slow and boring in some parts so my attention waned, but overall it was an entertaining movie.

I have had many conversations with my Mississippi kin folk who have said I would have not made it if I was born and raised in Mississippi during that era. I agree!

I also completely hated Mary J. Blige’s song for the movie #yeahIsaidit HATE!

OKAY PEOPLE CHIME IN!! WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS??

Our next movie is Moneyball It's available on Netflix Let's see what all the hoopla is about.

I would like to add Albert Nobbs to this list. We must see and discuss this.

Thoughtfully...Thought-Out....Thursday...Thoughts #59

1. When you break almost all the nails on your right hand I recommend that you cut the one lone long nail on your middle finger. lol

2. I do quite a bit of online shopping and I collect the boxes. I'm ready to move at a moments notice if need be. Trolling for boxes or buying a whole bunch would not be the business. Of course I'm sure I will have to buy some but..yeah. If you stay ready you don't have to get ready. This can apply to all areas of ones life.

3. We did not discuss the FACT that the FLOTUS works out every single day for 1 hour and 30 minutes! I mean look at her arms! She is a beast! Beast meaning AWESOME! in case some no count racist stops by here. She beat Ellen in the push up contest in case you were wondering.

4. The kid in me loves flavored milk! Chocolate, strawberry, vanilla etc. Vanilla is my favorite. I also like pudding and vanilla is my favorite. Chocolate everything was my favorite but my pallet has opened up some.

5. This weather is so crazy out here. All day Tuesday it was sunny, chilly but sunny. Overnight there was a rainstorm. It was over by morning and the sun was shining. If I had not been awake at 1:00 am I would've missed it. Ah..but I love when it rains at night it's like natures hand sanitizer cleaning the streets.

6. It really hurts my heart to see dirty, unkempt children early in the morning with a parent dressed to the nines. What is that about?

7. My illness threw me off on keeping up with the FPAD challenge. I plan to do a make-up pictorial session. Stay tuned. :)

8. The Disney channel is BOSS to me right now. You can't tell me this song is NOT jamm'n. lol My kid and I are going to have a BALL!



9. This year feels like it's flying by to me. It's already February and the month is half over. It's too fast!

10. I bought all the fixings to make some rice krispy treats, but instead of making the treats, I ate all the marshmallows in the bag but two! I even had a marshmallow roast on the stove. SMH!

11. It would be remiss of me if I did not mention the tragedy that is the loss of Whitney Houston. She had so many great songs and I'm sure you can find at least one that is a part of the soundtrack to your life. Can I just say that although it may be sad, they are going to have some chuuurch at her home going celebration funeral with Marvin Winans officiating! Rest In Peace Whitney. :(
I'm not even gon tell y'all about the time I was riding around late night with my cousin and she was bumpin' this on repeat while she was looking for her dude. When she found him she hit him with her car! Nope not gonna tell y'all that!

Valentine's Day 2012

Hey Y'all,

Happy Valentine's Day!

This year I have a much better out look on this holiday. This year I'm making plans to get out there and see what I can see.  This year I'm dating and giving men a real chance. It took me this long to fully get theCaptain out of my system. And that's okay!

Speaking of theCaptain,(click his name and you can get an idea of how crazy our entanglement was.) his solicitations for sex have been hilarious. For the first time ever I've ignored him and I'm proud of me for no go backs. *pats self on back* I know I'm ready for love again!

My other little rebound dalliances have been just that.. dalliances and I'm okay with that too. I know what I want.

I'm ready to open up my heart again.

Wish me luck! :)

Better yet pray that God sends me a man that will love me, care for me and be able to receive all this love I have for him, and we take this love thang to marriage!

It rained really hard yesterday! Our first winter weather. The news said get prepared for a storm!! Uhh...yeah...a one day storm! The sun came out today. lol

A Month in Pictures: Day 6 - DINNER

Super busy today no time to eat all day! I was starving after I got off BART. I went straight to my Chinese spot and ate badly.  It was so good! LOL! Mandarin Spicy Chicken. YUM! Still drinking only water though!

A Month in Pictures: Day 5 - 10:00 AM and It's Sunday .....

What am I doing at 10:00 am?? Cooking. There's just something about a Sunday Morning that makes me want to cook breakfast!! As a child, eating Sunday breakfast together was something we did before church sometimes. A good bowl of cereal was on deck some days too. lol Going to church and staying all those hours on an empty stomach is so NOT the business!

Today, I'm cooking up some hashbrowns for this breakfast. The rest of this meal will consist of scrambled eggs and toast with butter and jelly. Sadly NO bacon and I have the sads! I mean, what is breakfast without bac-o-licious, pork-tastic, salty hog slabs of crispy goodness?

Anywhoo, I went to a diner once that served their hashbrowns with a sprinkle of cheddar and a dollop of sour cream. At first I was put off cuz imma ketchup kinda girl, but as it turns out that's a rather tasty combination.  

I really just wanted to show ya'll I can make hashbrowns from scratch. Yep that's me... still in the vain of AWESOME!

And since it's Sunday I must add my scripture and song. How appropriate is "In The Morning" by Mary Mary?

A Month in Pictures: Day 4 - A STRANGER

I saw superwoman while I was out handling business in Berkeley last week. Yup SUPERWOMAN!! Just standing on the sidewalk in the middle of the day. I tried to sneak a picture of her without her seeing me because I thought she might be crazy and figured it would be great fodder for Twitter.

I didn't like the picture I took so I approached her, she didn't appear to be completely crazy and I really wanted to know WHY she was dressed like that in the MIDDLE OF THE DAY.  When I asked, she had a reasonable explanation...there was a scavenger hunt going on and she was one of the clues.

After a brief laugh of understanding I asked her if I could take her picture-- because seeing Superwoman in the middle of the day was just so FUNNY. She said sure with a huge smile! Notice her pose? Who knew I'd be able to use this random encounter with a stranger in a post! SCORE!  Please note: It is not uncommon to see people in costume in Berkeley. Nope not at all. :)

FREESTYLE FRIDAYS: FITNESS and FOTO

For some reason February is a month of fitness. All over the nets people are still going strong in their resolve to be fit. I saw this little ditty on Pinterest and decided it was doable.

First Thursday Thoughts of the New Year!! I thought I had run out of thoughts....guess not. LOL! Let's get to it! Please note: All links highlighted.

1. I’m really shook about Don Cornelius killing himself. Why would he do that? I’m disturbed that Vesta allegedly overdosed in a motel room all alone. Why would she do that? What’s going on? The previously famous seem to have it hard.  *soul train two steps* for Don * pours out for the homie*  for Vesta

2. I must admit…more than once I have stopped on the TV show Face Off thinking it’s the movie Face Off while pursuing past SyFy on cable. Speaking of SyFy they have a new show about  fairies and a succubus titled Lost Girl. It's a good show. I was surprised. It grabbed me from the first episode!

3. There are certain movies that can come on TV and I’m going to watch just because they’re on. Romeo Must Die is one of those movies! Judge me! LOL!

4. Can we discuss why the makers of nasty candy make nasty candy? And the eaters of nasty candy why do you eat nasty candy? What is the nastiest candy you've ever tasted? Black licorice is at the top of the list.

5. I enjoy watching award shows with the folks on Twitter so much! It is a hilarious experience Since I'm in the west I rarely get to see the same shows at the same time so it's thrilling! :)

6. Dogs in clothes are funny to me, but dogs in hats send me to another place of hilarity.

7. There are so many amazingly funny people to see on the B.A.R.T (bay are rapid transit) but I can’t take pictures without getting caught. I would probably get in a real fight! People are crazy out here!

8. J.G. Wentworth sent me an email. He must have realized I do need cash now. I wish he would send it for this tuition. Speaking of cash, you know what would be nice? It would be nice to open a cereal box and it say YOU’RE THE WINNER vs. Sorry this box is not the winner.

9. My Month In Pictures post today is WORDS. If you didn't know that I think I'm AWESOME now you know! Hahahaha! How did I forget Barney said this!! AWESOME!

Movie Club Kickoff: THE HELP

 Hey Movie Clubbers,

We're kicking off movie club 2012 (original post here )with an homage to the Academy Awards. Like last year we will be viewing then reviewing the movies nominated.

Since The Help is getting so much love right now I thought it would be appropriate to kick off this years movie club with it. It's available on Netflix so those of you who have not seen it will be able to get it. Many of you have seen The Help already in theaters or on Netflix and I would enjoy hearing your thoughts about it. Please let me know through this post how many of you have already seen it so I can do the review post, and we can move on to the next movie. Okay let's get to it. Happy viewing! :)
