In case ya'll didn't KNOW....

BLACK GIRLS ROCK!

Many people don't support BET because of their programming or lack thereof. BET programming can be degrading to women, ignorant and downright buffoonish and coonish ! Yeah I said coon! Anyway Sunday night BET took a leap (in my opinion) toward the positive by broadcasting the first annual Black Girls Rock awards show that was held October 16, 2010. The foundation Black Girls Rock is a positive organization that supports inner city girls and encourages them through music to love themselves, have higher self esteem and just recognize that no matter where they come from THEY ROCK!!!

The event was missed by many because they don't watch BET. I tuned in because I support the organization, and was siked that the awards were being aired. BET was just the vessel being used to air something positive. I wish ABC, CBS, or NBC or even MTV would have chosen to broadcast the show but they didn't BET did!

I like all things positive for black girls! Raven Simone and Ke Ke Palmer among many others were honored at the award show for their image of positivity for young black girls! They don't mind being role models which I love! I considered them OUR more positive and less sexualized Hanna Montana's.

A highlight of the evening  for me was a performance of Nina Simone's Four Women by Marsha Ambrosius,  Ledesi, Kelly Price and Jill Scott. It was AMAZING!!! Check that out Here the original version Here

The commercial for the show showed Nia Long, who was the host for the evening rockin a Black Girls Rock t-shirt. It's a must have for me. Why??? because I Rock! LOL! Now if I could just figure out where to get one...

More about the organization here and about the award show here. This post was inspired by Confessions of a City Girl.

Did anyone else watch?

UPDATE: Rebroadcast tonight 8:00 pm PST

I heard about the show but didn't even realize it came on Sunday (or on BET for that matter) until folks on FB kept talking about it. From what I caught Sunday (and last night during the rebroadcast) it was a cool show.

I watched most of it because I was in and out watching other stuff. But I thought it was good. Really nice to see such positivity on BET of all places.

I think ijust saw the one performance from Monica and then fell asleep. I heard that it was a great show tho... only wish that BET would re-air it as much as they re-air the EBT awards.

Lol i feel you. I just dont know. BET has scarred me. I appreciate the Black Girls Rock effort but too little to late?
Nah, i caught the highlights and i thought it was beautiful. In the future i may reconsider but when ever i give BET a chance they slap me in the back of the head lol. guess this wasn't one of the times

I missed the show. I forgot about it. If I had remembered, I would've had to DVR it. I, unfortunately had Dish. This means that the show aired at 5:00 pm. for me. I work until 5:00pm on Sundays, and 6:00pm yesterday.

I only saw a few tweets come across my cell phone that spoke of actress Nia Long looking delicious & I knew that I'd eventually run across a few images on the blogs, here and there.

BET isn't THAT bad of a network. I mean, it probably could stand to incorporate more social-conscious programs into its repetoire, but so could many other networks.

Don't attack me! Lol.

Oh, and I take it from the playlist that every thing is looking GOOD around the homefront?

Hahahaha.

@AR gal
It was good! I'm glad you got a chance to see it!

@K Rock
I agree this was a positive for BET, and I hope they keep it up!

@khaki
Hey girl! I agree with you on that! This needs to be rebroadcast a lot so people can see it. It really was a great show!

@City girl
Thanks for stopping by. I hope my soap box wasn't too much LOL! I appreciate your post because it inspired my post! BET has to do better and this was a giant step in the right direction!

@Nexgrl
Hopefully you'll be able to catch it. I used to have Dish so I understand!

@Don
Now you know it's all lurve around here no matter what you say! LOL! People are entitled to their opinion. BET is not that bad to me. I was mostly voicing things I've heard from others as to why they don't watch. I clearly watch. BET is bringing “The Game” back so we cool! LOL! Now if they would just stop showing Leprechaun Back 2 Da Wood?? we would be cooler!

The music is because love is the theme of the blog. :) I have a post about the home front coming soon.
