How old would YOU be if you didn't know how old you are?

 I don't want to be boxed in by your rules for my life!

Lately I've been really concerned about getting older... I don't want to be concerned. I had my life planned out and expected to have achieved certain things by now. You know... the regular stuff like husband, family, awesome career and extreme wealth. lol

I recently celebrated a birthday and here I go again evaluating what I don't have and being kinda sad about it, and I don't want to be sad! I usually take a day or two to wallow in my stuff, then I pull myself out and keep it moving, however sometimes... some things... linger...

One thing I stopped doing was telling people my age or my business. There is such pressure when people know your exact age and I don't like it! I want to do what I want to do, be how I want to be, and act how I want to act, be it childish or mature.

I don't want to be boxed in by your rules for my life!

Ask yourself, how old would YOU be if you didn't know how old you are? How would you be living your life?

I find that people label you and have expectations for YOUR life once they learn your age. As long as they don't KNOW your age and assume you are younger (because you look it) there's no problem. Once they learn the truth all of a sudden you can't act a certain way, dress a certain way, etc. So I find it easier to just not to say.

Society, family and friends get us so bogged down with what we should do be doing by 20's, and 30's.  Succumbing to these expectations get people so messed up.

I don't want to be boxed in by your rules for my life!

I look around and see so many unhappy people because they are living their lives by others expectations of them and I NEVER want that to be me again. I used to be so concerned about what my family thought of me and tried to be so perfect. It's exhausting being perfect! Now, I just want to stay happy and be fly doing me!

I have such hope and expectation for 2012... well ... I have such hope for every year but most of all I'm really just trying to accept God's timing for my life and to be ready when the things I desire happen.

...and I won't be

and to answer the question forever 28!

"I don't want to be boxed in by your rules for my life!"

I love that quote! I have a tendency to dwell on things that I should've had or should've been doing by a certain age as well but then I have to slap myself in the face when I realize that some of those things are what society expects us to have or be doing. We plan for ourselves and God laughs. Live well and remember: "This above all: To thine own self be true!"

I hate telling my age for the exact reason. Ask me how much I weigh and I have no problem telling you but asking my age will get you a screwed up face. lol

I would be my same age. I don't want to go back to any age. My life hasn't gone the way in which I planned, but I just keep going.

When I tell people my age, they don't believe me and my response is, "Fine, don't believe me then."

Man, I feel like you wrote a post straight from my head. ;)I've been feeling this way for a long time. My life has not turned out anything close to what I had "planned" and I go through these periods of time of dwelling on it and feeling sorry for myself. I also have a tendency to compare my life to those of my friends and they all seem to have it together. Then I try to look at it from a different perspective and think, I don't need to do things in a certain order or according to someone else's standards. I also don't think everything needs to be so "cookie cutter" either.
I was recently thinking of starting a gratitude journal so I can move my focus from dwelling on what I don't have to being thankful for what I do.
Anyways.....sorry for venting on your comments.
I would agree with you, I would like to be somewhere between 25-28 too. :)

Interesting points and good question. I believe there is some truth here, mentally and emotionally.

I'd say that I be somewhere around my late 90s.

Just kidding. LOL!

@Starrla
Thanks! :) Yeah I had to get off that expectation train...it can drive you nuts if you let it.

@Southerngal
Same here. I first ask why? Usually the reason they want to know is something dumb...lol Umm... no weight questions either! LOL!

@Nexgirl
I meant it in more of a theoretical sense. I want to feel and look 28. I once heard someone say pick an age and be it, so that's how I meant it. LOL! @"Fine, don't believe me then."

@Mommy+Me
I think a gratitude journal is a great idea!It will be great to go back and review what you've written when you have a sad day. I too am trying to be more thankful for what I do have and more patient... :)

@Don
Whatever I was going to say was negated by you being in your late 90's hahahahaha!

Yes!! Lady Cabdriver will forever Bang!

Well, at 34, I don't really care about telling people my age. Between 26ish to about 32, I did really try to please people or at least live up to their expectations. Now, I'm like what the F ever! This is my life, i'm going to live it how I choose and I am not responsible for your expectations of me.

And to answer the question...I'd say ageless. Sometimes I play with my kids like i'm 10, party with my friends like i'm 21, hold down my career and home like i'm 40..but that's life...it's ever changing..too much so to be caught up on a number.

Love your posts!

P.S. I love this... said...

Hmmm good question. When I tell people my age.. which few and far between, they NEVER believe me.. it cracks me up. I would say I'm eternally 25.. grown enough to be responsible and handle my business yet youthful enough to still have crazy fun and a big dreamer.
